Family Service Legal Advice Service (FLAS) and Legal Aid

FLAS (Family Legal Advice Service) provides initial guidance regarding the family Court, its processes, and available dispute resolution options, both within and outside the Court where your family matter does not meet the urgency criteria. This service is government-funded by the Ministry of Justice and is accessible if you meet the financial criteria. This service covers:

  • Informing you about your legal rights and responsibilities, as well as the available options for parenting arrangements, along with how the Court will apply the Care of Children Act 2004 to your case
  • Explaining the procedures involved in pursuing parenting or guardianship matters in Court
  • Assisting you in completing Court forms should your case proceed to court
  • Assessing your eligibility for legal aid
  • Outlining the requirements if your case progresses to Court
